ENOUGH ABOUT US

HERE A 5 THINGS FL OUTDOOR LOVES ABOUT NEW SMYRNA BEACH

Other than build great outdoor project here is what we love most about New Smyrna Beach. Here are five fun facts about New Smyrna Beach:

1. Surfing Capital: New Smyrna Beach is often dubbed the "Shark Bite Capital of the World," but don't let that deter you—it's also one of the best surfing spots in Florida. The area, especially around Ponce Inlet, is known for its consistent waves, making it a popular destination for surfers from around the world.

2. Historical Sugar Mill Ruins: The Sugar Mill Ruins are a fascinating piece of local history. Dating back to the early 19th century, these ruins are what remains of an old sugar plantation that was destroyed during the Second Seminole War. The site is now a protected historical landmark and offers a glimpse into Florida's turbulent past.

3. Marine Biodiversity: The nearby Indian River Lagoon is one of the most biodiverse estuarine ecosystems in North America, home to over 4,000 species. The Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach offers tours and exhibits that allow visitors to explore this incredible environment, where you can often spot manatees, dolphins, and a variety of bird species.

4. Turtle Mound: Turtle Mound is a prehistoric archaeological site within Canaveral National Seashore. This massive shell midden, created by the Timucua people, is made up of oyster shells accumulated over centuries. It rises nearly 50 feet high and offers spectacular views of the surrounding coastline.

5. Festivals and Arts: New Smyrna Beach is a hub for arts and culture, hosting several festivals throughout the year. One of the most prominent is the "Festival of the Arts," ranked among the top outdoor fine art festivals in the U.S. This event attracts artists and art lovers from all over, offering a vibrant mix of visual arts, music, and local cuisine.

These facts highlight the unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty that makes New Smyrna Beach a must-visit destination.

Hurricane Milton - Know Your Hurricane Screens

Know Your Motorized Screen

As Tropical Storm Milton approaches, bringing potential strong winds and heavy rain to Florida, it's important to make sure your motorized screens are in top shape. While we can’t predict the storm’s exact impact, preparing now will protect your outdoor spaces from possible damage.

Rule 1: Not All Motorized Screens Are Hurricane-Rated.

Many homeowners assume their motorized screens will protect them during a hurricane, but not all screens are built for this purpose. Most motorized screens are designed for insect control and UV protection, not wind abatement. If your screen isn't rated for hurricane-force winds, it should be retracted into its housing once winds exceed 20 mph. High winds and debris can destroy the fabric and damage the tracks, leading to costly repairs or replacements.

To determine if your screen is hurricane-rated, check for a label or plaque on the weight bar. If you see the term "HVHZ" (High Velocity Hurricane Zone), you’re in good shape. If you're unsure, it's best to roll up the screen. Remember, the mesh used in hurricane-rated screens is different from the standard mesh you find in home improvement stores. If you're still uncertain, we're here to help. Contact us, even if your question isn’t directly related to screens.

Rule 2: Gather Information About Your Screens

Knowing the details of your motorized screens is crucial. Who manufactured them? What type of screens are they (insect, solar, or hurricane)? How are they powered—plugged in or hardwired? Locate the service switch or breaker that controls them so you can quickly shut them off if needed. If the company that installed them is no longer around or you can’t track down the manufacturer, don’t worry—our Pre-Hurricane Repair and Estimating List is here for you. Simply visit Pre-Hurricane Motorized Screen Repair List to lock in your spot.

Rule 3: Document Everything

Before the storm arrives, take photos and videos of your screens in good working condition. Email or text these to yourself as a backup. Insurance companies often look for reasons to deny claims, so having proof of your screens’ condition is essential.

Rule 4: When in Doubt, Roll Them Up

If you're unsure whether your screens are hurricane-rated, it’s safer to roll them up. A replacement unit can range from $3,900 to $14,000, and insect screens start at $12.95 per square foot. Don’t take unnecessary risks—protect your investment by rolling up your screens before the storm.

Secure Your Spot Today!

By joining the Pre-Hurricane Motorized Screen Repair and Estimating List, you’ll ensure that you’re prepared for any potential damage. Our team will inspect your screens and offer repair or upgrade recommendations to help protect your home. Don’t wait until it’s too late—secure your spot today and have peace of mind this hurricane season.
